Legal Specialist · In-house experience

Areas of expertise

Ten areas I have worked on inside the establishments I have worked for, in healthcare, legal services, construction and multi-branch food service, and that I now explain in general awareness content based on published Saudi laws. What follows describes what each area involves and my experience in it. It is not an offer of any service.

Services that require a professional licence are not offered before it is issued. For a specific case, please contact a licensed lawyer through the Najiz lawyers directory.

How to read this page: each area has three parts: what I explain for general awareness, what the area involves as I worked on it as an employee inside my employer, and a line from my experience. The page contains no legal opinions on individual cases, no drafting or review of contracts for others, and no representation of anyone before any authority.
Area 1 · In-house

In-house legal analysis

I explain for general awareness how to read a rule from its official text: the article number, its scope and what it excludes.

What this area involves

  • Answering legal and regulatory questions raised by the establishment's own departments.
  • Studying and analysing legal questions and issues.
  • Preparing internal legal views for management on facts and documents.
  • Researching the relevant laws, regulations and decisions.
  • Assessing the establishment's legal positions and risks.
  • Putting recommendations and proposed steps to management.

From my experience: supporting the management of a construction establishment in-house on projects, HR and regulatory obligations, and studying files and preparing reports for the team at a legal services company.

Area 2 · Civil Transactions Law · Labor Law

Contract drafting and review, in-house

I write general awareness on the effect of a contract and the obligations of its parties, and on what deserves attention before signing, in light of the Civil Transactions Law in force since 16 December 2023. I also explain the unified employment contract and how its wage clause became an executive instrument.

What this area involves

  • Drafting the establishment's contracts and agreements.
  • Reviewing contracts before the establishment signs them.
  • Analysing contractual rights and obligations.
  • Identifying contractual risks and gaps.
  • Drafting annexes and amendments.
  • Reviewing the terms and conditions of commercial dealings.
  • Confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Service and cooperation agreements.

From my experience: drafting and reviewing construction contracts and agreements for the construction establishment I worked for, and preparing and reviewing employment contracts and managing branch and staff-housing leases at the restaurant operator.

Area 3 · Companies Law · Commercial Courts Law

Commercial and company law

I explain in plain language the general framework of company forms under the Companies Law, the commercial register requirements under the new Commercial Register Law, and where commercial disputes are heard under the Commercial Courts Law.

What this area involves

  • In-house legal support to the establishment's management.
  • Organising and reviewing the establishment's contractual and commercial relationships.
  • Preparing and reviewing the establishment's legal policies.
  • Studying the regulatory obligations of commercial activities.
  • Reviewing procedures and documents with legal effect.
  • Supporting the establishment in-house in handling legal risks and disputes.
  • Legal support in the establishment's dealings with suppliers, customers and service providers.

From my experience: tracking licences and regulatory requirements for establishments in construction and multi-branch food service, and supporting contractor and supplier objections inside the construction establishment.

Area 4 · Labor Law

Labor law and HR

I explain the Labor Law as published, as amended and in force since 19 February 2025: the contract and its documentation on Qiwa, probation and notice, leave, ending the relationship and the end-of-service award, and establishment obligations on Qiwa and GOSI.

What this area involves

  • Preparing and reviewing employment contracts in-house.
  • Supporting management on employment-relationship matters.
  • Reviewing internal regulations and policies.
  • Preparing and reviewing disciplinary policies and regulations.
  • Legal support in internal administrative investigations.
  • Reviewing procedures on labor violations.
  • Studying the establishment's labor disputes and assessing its regulatory position.
  • Reviewing the procedures for ending the contractual relationship.
  • Explaining labor rights and obligations inside the establishment.

From my experience: preparing employment contracts and internal policies for my employer, handling HR transactions on Qiwa and Ajeer, drafting employee-violation reports and following up final settlements.

Area 5 · Labor Law · PDPL

Internal policies and regulations

I explain what the Labor Law requires of an establishment's work regulation, how an establishment adopts the unified model regulation on Qiwa, and what the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) requires when employee data is collected and kept.

What this area involves

  • Preparing and reviewing internal policies.
  • Preparing regulations and organisational procedures.
  • Reviewing HR policies.
  • Preparing policies for keeping and managing data and documents.
  • Reviewing authority and responsibility procedures.
  • Aligning internal policies with the relevant regulatory requirements.

From my experience: preparing internal policies, procedures and administrative documents for my employer to support its compliance with the Labor Law.

Area 6 · Companies Law · PDPL

Governance and compliance

I write about compliance as a daily habit inside an establishment: the obligations and renewals calendar, the compliant employee file, and personal data protection. I also explain the governance principles covered by the Companies Law in terms a small business owner can use.

What this area involves

  • Reviewing internal procedures from a legal perspective.
  • Identifying the legal and operational risks tied to procedures.
  • Preparing compliance frameworks and procedures.
  • Reviewing authorities and responsibilities.
  • Developing governance practices inside the establishment.
  • Reviewing documents and procedures for consistency with the relevant regulatory requirements.

From my experience: monitoring my employer's compliance with construction, labor, tax and government requirements, and preparing management reports on staff, licences and violations.

Area 7 · Labor Law · Arbitration Law

Disputes and settlements

I explain the general procedural path of a labor dispute, from amicable settlement at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to the labor court, the time limit for bringing a claim, and arbitration as a route both parties agree to, without going into any particular dispute.

What this area involves

  • Studying disputes and assessing the establishment's legal position.
  • Analysing the documents and facts relevant to a dispute.
  • Taking part in preparing legal studies and memoranda.
  • Supporting the establishment in negotiations.
  • Following up amicable settlements for the employer.
  • Assessing the establishment's legal options before it acts.
  • Preparing legal files and documents.

From my experience: supporting claims and contractual and labor dispute files inside my employers, attending labor and administrative hearings in coordination with the employer's representative, representing my own employer as its statutory representative, and coordinating with outside lawyers.

Area 8 · Behind every post

Legal research and studies

Every explainer I publish starts from the official text on the Bureau of Experts website and the pages of the competent authorities, and I follow the amendments made to it. That is why I give the article number, its link and the date the content was last reviewed.

What this area involves

  • Preparing legal research and studies.
  • Researching the relevant laws, regulations and decisions.
  • Analysing legal texts.
  • Taking part in preparing legal memoranda within the team.
  • Studying the legal effects of decisions and procedures.
  • Comparing regulatory texts where needed.

From my experience: researching Saudi laws and regulations and following their updates has been part of my work since 2023, and I supported the preparation of legal memoranda at a legal services company.

Area 9 · In-house

Legal review

I publish general checklists, such as the before-you-sign checklist for an employment contract and the employee file checklist, so readers can check their own documents against the published requirements.

What this area involves

  • Reviewing the establishment's documents and legal records.
  • Reviewing contracts and agreements before approval.
  • Reviewing policies and procedures.
  • Identifying legal observations and risks.
  • Putting the necessary observations and recommendations to management before approval or signature.

From my experience: reviewing employment contracts, internal policies and administrative documents for my employer before approval, and managing the establishment's legal documents.

Area 10 · In-house

Ongoing legal support inside the establishment

I worked as part of the establishment's own team, so legal support was day-to-day work tied to management's decisions. It covered:

  • Regular answers to legal questions from the establishment's departments.
  • Reviewing contracts and documents.
  • Supporting HR on legal matters.
  • Reviewing policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring legal risks.
  • Preparing internal legal studies and memoranda.
  • Internal legal views when management takes decisions with regulatory effect.

From my experience: this describes my work as an employee inside the establishment, for my own employer only. It is not an offer of any service to outside establishments.
